Re: carb.. how much?
I did it myself, and it runs! It was quite an adventure, but pretty easy if I just remembered where everything went.

The first time I tried changing it out, I took the old one out then put the new one in (I thought) then I realized I put the old one back in (DUH!)

Try #2

Put the new one in this time, but the float pin came out. So I had to take it apart and put it back in

Try #3

Got the float pin in this time. Put it back together, tried to start it and the bowl overflow nozzle started shooting gas out. Whats going on?

Try #4

Took it apart again, looked at an exploded view of the carb, thought maybe the float was in wrong, took it apart adjust the float, put it back together. Samething fuel squirting out the overflow

Try #5

Dad says "Whats this thing" I said "I don't know" as he shows me the float needle that he picked up in the bilge area. Looked at the diagram closely and that thing fell out probably when I first took it apart.

Put the needle back in. Tried to start it, took a while, but she turned over. She started fine! WOO HOO! Total time 3 hours.

Went to go adjust the timing but needed to find TDC, so had to crank the engine over till cylinder #1 was at TDC, that took a while since you don't know where it is, and turning the motor by hand isn't easy.

Found it and marked it on the flywheel with a silver marker. Put in new plugs since the other plugs where: 1. split fire automotive(previous owner), 2. pretty fouled up from all the gas that was dumped.

Went to try to find the mark with the timing light, hard a hard time in the sun. Thought I saw it moved it to 8 BTDC and she purred like a kitten at idle. opened her up a bit and see what she ran like at higher rpms, 2k to be exact, engine was shaking, adjusted it by ear and tried it again at idle, ran smooth and opened it up to 2k again and smooth, happy medium.

So it was a long saturday, but I enjoyed it, it was beautiful day in the high 70s and sunny.
