Thanks for your responses! Im curious about the thermostat, seems to me engineers put it there for a reason. My understanding it started as a car engine and was needed for heat in passenger area but doesn’t it also allow the engine itself to warm up quicker? That reduces threat of damage to motor from running too hard before motor properly warm. I’m not a mechanic, that’s why I’m asking…. I understand the “parts changer” comment as well. I know I did not explain well all the steps he went through, mostly because I didn’t understand them myself. I do know that he got to the spark control module quickly and put one he had in to confirm. As far as the rest, he said it was cheapest way to go before digging in deeper. I still believe the guy was being pretty honest with me but I’m probably too close to the situation to be partial. Should I use him again or stay away? Thanks again!

Thermostat keeps the motor at operating temp. Heat for the passengers is just an added bonus. I didn't read the entire post but what temp is it running at?

Thermostat also keeps the block/heads full of water. Without it air pockets can form

I have not run it long enough to know. Only on a hose changing oil (again) because some water got in. Maybe tomorrow night? I’m thinking I’ll put a thermostat back in. I still don’t know what caused the overheat, so a new one would’ve gone in anyways. Already did the impeller. I’ll let you know what the temp runs at if I haven’t out tstat in yet. Hoping for a nice event free boat trip!

Yeah that is odd he took out thermostat usually when that is done it is a work around for a blockage somewhere in cooling system . If the cooling is working ok it should run very cool like 120 without thermostat
