I have a 2001 Yamaha 115 TXRZ with 69 hours on it that I run in saltwater.

Just latley it has started to give me some problems at an idle. Not all of the time but it does it enough that I am not happy. It runs excellent at all other speeds but gives me problems at idle. I have checked and replaced the water/fuel sep. and the fuel filter on the side of the motor. The ball is hard when it shuts off and I find I need to increase the throttle to restart the engine and I will sometimes choke if necessary. The gas is stableized and treated with ezorb for water. I am wondering if I might need to clean/rebuild my carbs. or might it be the fuel pump? I have read many post regarding this issiue and it seems it may be a problem with my carb.

Could it be from this ethenal fuel? By the way its on a 2000 angler center consol with an aluminum tank. Just trying to elimante the ethanal and old tank issiue.

Sounds to me like the idle circuit in at least one carb is gummed up, TR.

Thanks JB,

I think I am very handy I have done some work on other outboards and small engines. Is cleaning/rebuilding an outboard carb do-able or should I have a local shop proform the work? I saw there is a carb repair/rebuild kit available for my outboard. Is there anything I should be aware of if I do the repair myself?

Thanks

Mike

You can buy an OEM Service Manual for less than one hour of labor at the dealer, Mike. Then you can not only do your own carbs, you can keep the manual for next time, too.
