Carb. Problem

1994 mariner 40 hp 4 cylinder, when I start it idles good but gas coming out of bottom carb.when I tap bowl the leaking stops, could this be a float problem.

Yeah. Float or float needle could be sticking. Take er apart and give it a good carb cleaning. Check out the float and needle to see how they look.
