Carb Question. Bad gas?

Hey guys,

I am finally ready to take my boat out after the rebuilt engine.

But.. It wont start. It cranks and has spark, but its not getting fuel. I tried starter fluid and it fired up instantly and dies.

The accerator pump is spraying a nice even spray in the primaries..but even thats not starting the engine. Is this obvioiusly bad gas? Water is gas? The carb was rebuilt too.

I disconnected the fuel fitting into the carb and its pressurized..and it smells like gas. I am getting fuel to the carb, but I am not sure whats going on after that.

Not starting.. pumped the throttle and everything. One spray of starter fluid and it fires right up.

Thanks!

Float set way too low? Mixture screw all the way in? What have you checked on the carb "rebuild"?

put your shifter in the position that allows you to rev the engine without engaging the gear. Set the lever a little forward from idle to give it a bit of rev on the engine. If you look at the carb, the idle screw should be a little back from the cam lobe, then try and start it.

Take some of the gas in a cup and try and light it with a match. It is ignites then it is gas that would at least start the engine.

Have you tried a remote tank?

I will try the remote tank. The guy that rebuilt it supposedly does a bunch of carb work and rebuilds.

Good idea of trying to light the gas in a cup (should be fun too).

I hate to take the horn off and start messing with the floats, but if they are too low..then I guess your right.. I wont get any gas coming out of the jets.

I normally start it with a pump, then a little more than 1/4" throttle. Its not working in this case..

How old is the gas? Any stabilizer added? Do you have a water separator filter? Have you checked color of gas? (Put some in a glass jar - Should be pale lemon yellow and clear, with no water seperation). If dark yellow and/or cloudy then drain it out!
