I Have A 76 Merc 500, Took It Out Today For First Time Since I Bought It Last Month. Motor Runs Great, Idles Fine, Starts Fine, Has Good Power. My Question Is There Is A Bog When I Acclerate. The Bog Is Not There When Revving Engine In Neutral. It Is There From A Dead Stop And When Hitting Throttle From Any Speed. The Bog Last About 1-2 Seconds And Then Clears. Carbs Look Clean Inside. Any Ideas

Re: Carb Question

The idle jets could be set too lean. Try adjusting the idle jets out 1/8 turn and try accelerating to see if the bog goes away or is reduced. Keep doing this 1/8 turn at a time until you hit the sweet spot.

As a side comment, revving the motor in neutral will not indicate anything. Testing for bog has to be done on the water. Also, be sure to set the idle speed with the motor in the water and in gear. Doing this in neutral or on the muffs will likely result in a too lean adjustment.
