Carb question

I have read the forums regarding using car carbs. It mentioned the holly carb. My question is I have a rochester two jet that is shot . I am having trouble finding a replacement . My buddy has a rochester 2 jet off a 70's Pontiac new in box. Looks like it may work. The carb number off the one on there now is 17059056, I know using a car carb isn't the best solution but I can't find a replacement so would it work for now. Ps. Rebuilding isn't an option

Even ignoring all the safety warnings you read, my guess is your boat would run horrible. It will start and idle fine, but trying to plane and running at part throttle would be a flop and a risk to the pistons if lean. Cars have very different air fuel mixes throughout the rpm range - Jetting is one small part of the equation. There are several companies that have a remanufactured carb on the shelf for your boat.

give me a couple of weeks if you have the time, I just picked up 4bbl carb and intake (yes, a marine one). once I get it on and dialed in I'd be willing to sell you my 2 bbl and intake set up. let me know. Oh yea, mine is off of a 4.3L engine year is a 1985, and it is currently in use running fine, I did a full rebuild on it 3 years ago and it hasn't given me any trouble since.

I bought a rebuilt one from these guys. I recommend them as well.

Don't use the auto carb. It's just not worth it.

John, was that message meant for me? It does appear that the two carbs are different, and I could always rejet mine, but an off the shelf unit that isn't dried out and crusty would be quite a time-saver. Are you anywhere near Tucson? Thanks!

Thank you everyone , I ended up ordering a marine carb from rockauto.com I was surprised as to the amount of marine parts they have.
