I think my prob is the carb, it sounds like it might be my accelerator pump since when i give my boat some throttle it cuts out then goes, and then after sputters until I let it idle, this only happens when the engine is warmed up.. so any ways I think it has to do with the pump, but I might as well do a whole rebuild, maybe it might be the float... so just in case I will do it all, so what does the rebuild kit come with, should I just do the accelerator pump?? and should I try it on my own or let a shop do it and do I just bring my whole boat in or just carb?? has anyone rebuild one of these, is it easy?? it is a mercarb two-barrel, 1986 thank you
guys any input is welcome!!

That's a fairly simple carb. If it's a learning experience for you then that's a good carb to learn on. The best thing I have found to clean them is to soak it in laquer thinner, just don't put any plastic or rubber parts in it.

Boatfun,
Definitely do it yourself. I have a 1989 Mercarb and rebuilt it this spring very easily. I took pictures through the entire process, and meant to put up a webpage describing my experience.. Here are a few tips...

1) Buy the 1 gallon carb cleaner dip can by Gunk ($11.00), sold at Advance Auto Parts. It comes with dip basket inside of a 1 gallon container. Very handy.
2) Buy Mercruiser OEM rebuild kit(~$35?), aftermarket kits blow.
3) Perform complete rebuild, not just pump. I.e. New needle, seat, float adjustment, complete disassembly and cleaning. While you're in there, might as well do it right.
4) Clear a good size area on your workbench, hopefully a well ventilated area (carb cleaner is nasty). Stay organized.

This carb is really easy to rebuild, and I felt really good when I saw the look on my brother's face when the engine started right up :)

Let me know if you have questions, or would like any pictures, external or internal of the carb.

-Chris

If you change your mind and give it the shop, they will want the whole boat. Good luck.
