Merc 140, 4cyl, I/O It is an '85 iron duke -- i know I was corrected from one viewer - but I am told this over and over... So I am looking for a new or remanufactured carb.

The rebuild failed... throttle plate is worn, so we're looking at getting a new one. Looks like I have a special case here - new is $700. 2bbl Merc Carb.

Any idea where to look for this part? I am at a loss right now, in many ways.
One guy said to find a boneyard and get the entire manifold.

Explain with a little more detail.

The mechanic said since the throttle plate is bad - it is running rich. i will need a new one.

The motor runs well. BUT we have been told to be prepared. We only use the I/O to run us out to our spot about 3-5 miles out and then throw the kicker on to troll. It only gets used about 20-30 minutes each trip. So he was not as worried as if we were running for hours.

But we need to get our hands on a new or reman and I have no idea where. The one place I found said $700 for it. I almost choked, I know I have to pay if I want to play, but I also would like to know if I have other options before handing it over.

Here are the numbers:

1389-8490 MCM120/140 has a single fuel air screw. We also need a neutral safety switch...

I will check the #s on mine tonight. mine is the old style mechanical choke. opperates with a heat tube comming from the manifold. my 89 has a electric choke, but it looked like the chokes are interchangable and could be converted easily. if you send a Email address I can send a pic if you like. $30 for the carb if you come pick it up or $40 shipped, $85 I will give you the manifold as well, then for sure it will work as long as the riser lines up.

Thanks Gary - great news.

Any idea where to find a neutral safety switch? As you can tell, I am not mechanically inclined and have no idea where to loo for these - but don;t want to get ripped off.

Thanks again all...

Neutral safety switch is in the shifter.
