Carb rebuild question

Im in the process of rebuilding my 1973 40 hp carb. For the high speed fixed jet at the bottom the manual says there is a special tool required. Do I have to order this tool or is there something else that'll work? Thanks

The special tool I believe is a extra wide blade standard screwdriver,its a brass jet and It can stay where it is as long as you do a good cleaning it,solvent compressed air and do it again.Some mention sticking wires in it,I wont do it that way just solvent blow,carb cleaner blow.

I have the motor in my signature, so our carbs are different. However, my manual called for a special tool as well. I simply ground down a screwdriver to fit the slot on the jet. Don't be tempted to use a thin blade screwdriver, as you will ruin the slot and then even the correct tool won't get it out.

What kind of solvent? Are y'all using varsol? I've only seen varsol in the fancy vats. Can you buy varsol and put it in a 5 gallon bucket to soak you parts? Then it's just carb cleaner and compressed air correct? Thank you!!

Check the Top Secret file on the top of this forum. Look under carb rebuilding and there're pics of the screw drivers you need to get the jets out.
