Re: CARB REPLACEMENT DIDN'T WORK- I THINK I FOUND SOMETHING

I can see a dirty bottom holding down hull speed but not necessarly RPM if it is propped right. If the prop pitch is too steep to begin with then it might. Do you have to open the trottle wide open to reach 3200 or is there some more trottle to go after reaching 3200. Is the carburator opening all the way. Does it sputter or miss at 3200. I still feel you should check fuel pressure under load.

Thank you for saying this. Geezus, half a dozen pro techs are giving advice and the guy is ignoring it.
Here's your fix: Keep guessing and then wave Harry Potter's wand at it.

Re: CARB REPLACEMENT DIDN'T WORK- I THINK I FOUND SOMETHING

Buttanic, I still have plenty of throttle left to go when the bog occurs. The carb is opening all the way, when the throttle is at WOT. It doesn't sputter or miss until right after 3200, the it bogs. I don't know what other word to use to describe it. The prop is a 15" pitch so I don't think it's the prop.

Depending on the weather tomorow I am going to bring it across the bay to the flats and check the bottom myself.

I'm not ignoring anything!!!

I don't have an easy way to pull the boat out of the water! If I did I would have done that already.

If you don't have anything constructive to contribute........then don't.

Re: CARB REPLACEMENT DIDN'T WORK- I THINK I FOUND SOMETHING

I've had the exact same symptoms as FreeBeeTony and replaced my ignition coil. Vastly better results. Now I have 9/10ths power and 4100 rpm maxed out on a 3.0L 4 CYL. The other thing is that is still bogs a little and fluctuates between full power and a little weaker. You can feel the engine surges a little. But still is MUCH better than before. Perhaps it's a weak ignition system like mine was. I will redo my ignition wires now.

OK.......bottom is clean, replaced coil.....no help.

Looked at vacuum again in neutral.........
Started at ~19 at idle, went to over 21 up past 3000PRM.....guess this rules out exhaust restriction.......?

Ran fine today up to ~3300..........

GUess I will have to look at fuel pressure under load..

I realy don't know what else it can be.........

Should I start another thread?

That test didn't rule out anything, it just means you decided to not pull it out of the water and check the exhaust, instead you are going to throw more money at it first.

Everybody meet at Freebees house tonight. Were doing an intervention.

We will tell Freebee that we care deeply for him, each in our own way, and we just want to see him on the water and happy again, but the time has come to seek professional (engine diagnostic) help. ;)

Dave

Don.........even with those vacuum readings I can still have an exhaust problem?

And I haven't decided not to take the boat out of the water......the lift I am trying to use is down.........belive me if I could have taken in out already I would have.

FBT......With the proper tools & gaskets at hand, you are looking at a 4-5 hour job MAX! Does the possibility exist of renting/borrowing a trailer for a couple hours? Just a thought......J

With 21 inches at 3000 rpm I don't know if I can buy into exhaust restriction being the problem. Do the fuel pressure under load and if you can connect the gauge as close to the carburator as possible. Or go to Auto Zone and buy a cheap automotive pump part #4126 $10.99 and run a test run with it. If it solves the problem then buy the high dollar marine pump.
