Im working on my friends outboard, and its a montgomery ward sea king by Chrysler. model # vwb52119a s/n 08x21798. What should the air mixture screw be set at? Also the bracket for the starter recoil is broken, I am going to try some low temp. aluminum brazing rod and see how that holds up. Has anyone tried that stuff?

My book calls for 1 1/4 turns out for initial setting, then tune after it's running at idle. (typical, turn out until running rough...note position. Turn in until popping/sputtering...set halfway between). On mine the final setting right now is just a shade shy of 1 turn out.

As for the brazing rod..never tried it. My FIL has a TIG welder. ;)

Thanks a lot! hopefully I'll have it running tomorrow. I bought the alumaweld rod at harbor freight tonight. I got home and practiced a little bit with the propane torch, was able to weld pop cans together. I tried it on the bracket but the propane torch wont get the bracket hot enough to melt the filler. I'm going to try it with the oxy-acetylene torch at work, so hopefully it works like they say it should. And I'll have better ventilation as heating aluminum releases some pretty toxic fumes.

No worries. Note that the adjustment if pretty fine. Turn it a few degrees, wait for change....turn a few more degrees if needed, wait for change.

Thanks again, got it running great in the bucket, air screw is between 1 and 1 1/4 turn. waiting for my friend to get here with his boat so hopefully it runs good while under load. The alumaweld seems to be holding great, and for the 14$ at harbor freight for a whole tube of rods, I think it was worth it!
