Re: carb swap?

That carb should bolt right up. You might have to use the same linkages off the 40hp, but the carb should work.

and yet again thanks zephyr. would i have to re-jet the 33 hp carb for the 40 hp jets and stuff?

Re: carb swap?

The 33hp carburetor has adjustable needles, high and low speed. The 40hp carb has an adjustable low speed needle and a fixed high speed jet. So, if you put the 33 carb on the 40hp motor, you will have to adjust both needles. In a way, that constitutes "re-jetting". If you were attempting a swap the other way, 40hp carb on a 33hp motor, you might have a problem with the fixed jet size.

You MAY lose a bit of performance, IF the 33hp venturi (the bore through the center) is smaller. I don't know if it is or not, but you can tell by a side by side looksee. However, even if it is smaller, I doubt you will be able to tell the performance difference.

Re: carb swap?

so i did some research over the past few days and i found that the carbs should work.. i even checked for a carb kit for both and they are the same carb kit for33 and 40 hp outboards. so i am to assume that they are the same size venturis but still not 100% sure.

i am ordering a carb kit for them and i will decided what one to use. on my hp outboard it has that stupid big choke on the side of it which has lines coming off it from every direction and i would like to take that off and use the electric choke.

now my question is can i just take off that stuypid big choke and swap it out for the electric one while swapping the carb bowls from the 33 to the 40 with out haveing any issues?
