I'd try 1-3/4 turns out from full lean and see what happens in the water. Once you've got it warmed up and running in gear, you can adjust each screw individually for smoothest/fastest idle. This may be a bit too lean for good acceleration, so at that point adjust each needle 1/8 turn at a time rich (CCW) until you get decent response.<br /><br />If you still can't get it to idle slowly, you may have other problems. Check compression; inspect/clean the distributor cap; put a timing lite on the motor and check the timing at idle; if the distributor drive belt were one tooth off, causing the timing to be retarded at idle, it won't run well at all.<br /><br />Check for cracked or leaking bleed hoses; take a look at your spark plugs for any ususual signs.<br /><br />If you're running on the flusher and it won't run slower than 1300, you may have problems more serious than minor tweaking will fix. Start with the basics and work your way out.<br /><br />HTH and let us know...........ed
