Hi,has anyone installed Holleys EFI for marine on there boat ? I have a 5.7 merc with a two barrel and would like easier cold starts, or just rebuild the carb. Any help out there would be great.

Thanks

You're talking about the Holley Marine Commander I suppose.....

That's an expensive TBI setup. ($2500+)

I don't think it would be worth it to switch. I think I would either rebuild the carb or determine why it's not starting easily when cold.

I live in the NW and I don't boat in cold weather. So I just disabled my automatic choke altogether and i have no problems starting my carbureted 454.

YMMV of course........

You probably just need to fix the carb and ensure that your automatic choke is adjusted properly.

Re: Carb to EFI

Have done it to a couple 350s because the owners wanted it. If you do it buy through Summint Racing. About half the cost of other places. I am going from memory but it seems it was about $1300 for the kit. Just be aware, you WILL spend some serious amount of time with your lap top getting everything right.

Just an FYI: I seen no real difference between it and a properly set up and adjusted carb.

That "kit" you're talking about at Summit, appears to be only the "Marine" ECU conversion "kit" for the Holley TBI kits.

The whole kit I mentioned that includes the TBI + all the other "stuff" needed to replace a carburetor is sold by Jegs and other Holley suppliers AND has a retail price of about $2500

http://www.jegs.com/p/Holley/Holley...le-Body-Fuel-Injection-System/761882/10002/-1

I suppose you could just buy that kit you mentioned, http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HLY-950-112/ But you would still have to get the TBI unit, and the correct intake manifold (if yours didn't work).

In anycase, I totally agree with you.......A properly tuned carb is going to be just as good (for the most part) as a TBI system on a pleasure boat engine! (maybe a tiny bit better, BUT NOT $1200-2500 better!!)

Well for the most part i agree with Bubba. The first question are you well versed with efi tuning...If not dont. A real custom tune that will make a diff in econ and power is about a grand...Popular thoughts of a dyno tune really doesnt get it on a boat

Rebuild/replace the carb - if set up properly it should fire right up - every time.
