We, my father and I, have an old john deere snowblower that hasn't been blowing to full potential and when the throttle is set to stop it doesn't stop. I was wondering if there was a place that i could find how to work on a blower carb. I have to redo the pull start and it has electric start and stays in the garage during the winter. Its a 726 which my father tells me is a 7hp 26 inch. All i need to know is which screws need to be adjusted and such. Thanks in advance.

PS I can get pictures and videos of anything if they will help.

What is happening with the throttle plate on the carb?

Sounds to me like you have a throttle cable failing to open it all the way and then failing to close it all the way.

Yes on the cable.
Maybe slipping in a hold down bracket and letting it move back and forth and not opening or closing the carb all the way.

Like the spring in the picture? I'm not sure of exactly what you are talking about. When I worked on small engines at school we didn't mess with the carbs much.

Opps didn't see that it didn't upload the picture.

What picture?
Anyhow, the cable will run through a hold down bracket before it gets to the carb.
It can move one way or the other if it gets loose in this bracket making you think you are moving the carb throttle but you are not, just the cable is moving in said bracket.

The cable is in the lower right hand corner of the picture. Somewhere between that picture and the throttle lever, there is a hold down bracket.

You can adjust the cable sheath, in that bracket.

Ok The only thing that looks adjustable is the thing in the corner. The throttle has nothing that looks remotely adjustable but I am known to be wrong at times.

That is a hold down bracket it is in.

Loosen the cable hold down and move the sheath until the carb butterfly closes all the way. It's a balance, closing all the way and opening all the way.

Yup! That is your throttle cable. Move your throttle lever to full throttle. Take the air cleaner off the carb and check if the butterfly is fully open. If not loosen clamp at the cable and move it so that butterfly is wide open. Then close throttle lever and check to see if butterfly is closed. Also ccheck and see what brand of engine it is . It will have a johndeer logo on it but I think you will find some where on the engine caseing who actually made the engine . (wisconsin, Koler, Briggs etc;). I want to find out what switch they used on your throttle system to stop your spark. Or is it shut of by a key switch?

There is no key or air cleaner. This is a really old blower, very possibly my grandpa whom I never known in my 17 almost 18 years. Hell this thing might be antique by now.:D:D

Ok, there where you moved the choke to stop it, look in that bore and see if the butterfly in there is going wide open at full throttle.
If not, loosen that hold down bracket and move it forward while still at WOT untill the butterfly is open all the way.
Also, look on there somewhere for a stop.
There has to be one or should be anyhow.

Ayuh,.......
The Oldest 1s were nothing more than a steel strap on a headbolt that you bent over,+ touched the end of the Sparkplug..........

Yes Bond-o and you were talking a bare spark plug I think.
This one has a covered plug.

Then it would need the little Spur punched into the metal strap.......

I've seen them both ways........

At 1st I was looking for the little black wires run off the throttle control,...
But see No signs that it was ever there......

I was thinking at first maybe stop wire/s were down by the carb along the throttle cable throw area but did not see that there neither.
Wonder what that knob looking thing is right below the carb?

OK. I watched the vidio. That flat plate where the throttle cable is attached has a metal stop or a little spring that the arm your throttle cable is moving. From that stop will be a black wire running behind your flywheel cover. Adjust the stop so that when you shut the throttle down, the leaver contacts it. This will ground out the coil and you will get no spark. the engine will then shut down. without haveing to choke it. We have also proved that your choke works. I also noticed that when you give more throttle, Your engine seems to be hunting. (revs are going up and down the scale.) I will look at the vidio again to find the govoner adjustment. It is hard to see the vidio is quite dark.

Nope can't see it. Can you send some stills of the carb area? get it well lighted. A shot right over the top, a side view, and from each end. And one from the bottom if you can get it?
