Re: Carbed John Deere Snowblower

John Deere snowblowers, as well as most brands do not have air cleaners. The engine will be a Tecumseh. As some have said, the throttle cable and plate shoud come back and hit a bare wire that has a black wire attached to ground out the coil.

Most snowblowers will hunt up and down at full throttle and shoud be adjusted under load. The main jet screw is on the bottom of carb bowl. This one will enrich the mixture when turned out and lean when turned in. As noted above it should surge a little with no load and smooth out as you hit the snow.

It probably has a low idle screw on the top side of the carb. The problem is that some of the old JD worked backwards. They control air movement so screwing in decreases air makes a rich mixture, turning out increases air creating a lean mixture. Without looking at the tech manual I can not tell which way yours is.

You can go to johndeere.com; then the parts link; then redential parts; then one left side Buy Parts online; left side halfway down John Deere Parts Catalog and look up parts diagrams by model number 726 or cut and paste this link.

You could also go to the local JD store and they may let you copy a few pages from the tech manual or maybe even take it home over night. You should be able to get a carb rebuilt kit for it. I would think that at a minimum you need to remove the bowl and clean out the water/rust/vanish

Re: Carbed John Deere Snowblower

Just took another look at the vid. The loose wire under the carb coming from the engine is the ground wire for turning the engine off. If you ground that to the side the engine and it kills the engine, it is working correctly. The wire should go up to the throttle plate and connect to a spring clip or spade connector that has a plastic holder. Since the wire does not appear to have a female spade end on it, I am assuming that it is the spring clip kind or the end has broken off.

Well said mike. Your pic is better than mine. He hasn't said if he got full throttle yet.

Clean the carb.... sea foam comes to mind...... adjust and oil the linkages..... make sure the shafts are greased too. Based on the age it is just getting old and you might even conside a coat of wax in the chute.
