if a person got their hands on some carbon fiber matt....just a bit....

and used it in a multiple layer of mat/woven/carbon fiber/ mat/woven way...

how would it bond?...do you need a different resin that would not work with standard applications?....

i think im going to need serious strength in an application....minimum 6 or 7 layers....i wouldnt mind ...."slipping in " some carbon fiber for good measure....

is it do-able? or will the different materials ..."work against each other"

thanks

You would need epoxy and the cost is not worth it. You can get pieces on ebay to play with for experiments.

Carbon fiber and Kevlar are both stronger. . .and a lot more expensive. . .than glass, oops!.

I don't know about the chemistry of resins for them, but I don't see why they couldn't be used to make a $100,000. bassrocket. :)

Ayuh,.......

There's all kinds of exotic fabrics available on the web, in any size you want,....
And,....
Epoxy is the resin of choice,..... Polyester isn't even in the class at all....

I think Defender Industries still maintains a website,.....
Google'm up.....

years ago, In my sailboat racing days, I helped a buddy of mine roll up a 12ft long spinnaker pole out of carbon fibre, we used epoxy, It worked out great, very strong and most important, it was light...

Without epoxy there's not much of a benefit to using the high end fibers, plus kevlar sucks up water and will wick it through the laminate. Freezing may be a problem if there's much water in it.
