Hi guys,Finished carb work and put her in the water this weekend.Motor ran the best it has ever ran.Ran wot smooth and quite.Ran about 7 miles on 3/4 throttle.Went to landing for lunch with everything seemingly normal.Idle fine and very smooth.Came out 45 minutes later motor turned over for 10 seconds, would not crank.Squeezed bulb and nothing. Then it stop turning over.Starter was stuck in gear.Bumped gear and starter disengaged.Shaft spins freely on starter but will not engage. This starter is new.Batteries are new and tried 3 of them.If this is big problem I will put new motor on boat. The selenoid is new.Any ideas. Thanks Roy I had to bum ride by car 10 miles to get my truck with trailer at the landing I put in.This ain't happening with this engine again.

Beginner here trying to help. Your scenario sounds like- when you stopped for lunch, the heat from the motor dried the carb/s. Trying to restart without squeezing the bulb 1st, drained the battery. I would recharge the battery, squeeze the bulb till firm and try it. You may also have a drain on the battery your not aware of.

Sounds like the bendex is not engaging. Either defective bendex/starter or a bad battery cable connection (sounds like you've eliminated the battery) preventing the starter from spinning fast enough to engage the bendex.

Hey guys,Update on no fire. Was reading any post about no fire and found one from fredfixit. He said to unplug 2 white wires from switchbox and see if you have a short in ignition switch.Motor fired right up.What a relief. Now to find out if I have a switch bad or wire grounding. Will update when I find out. Thanks to iboats and all you guys for putting out the effort to help people like me.Roy

white wires.....should be to ground out the magneto to shut the motor off. One probably goes to the safety lanyard swith. Often one goes to a mercury switch, preventing the motor from running when tilted. Usually the ignition switch 'off' position grounds the magneto wires that connect to the back of the switch. I'd check the lanyard switch first...not used much.
