carburator problem

I have a 140 HP Evinrude (early 90s?). It accelerates and slows down spontaneously while running. I am told this is due to corrosion in the linkage between carburator and throttle, and can be corrected by replacing some parts. Are these available as a kit from the manufacturer and should any Evirude dealer have them? Thanks.

Re: carburator problem

Welcome to the forum,BC.
Does it loose boat speed when it revs up, or gain speed when it revs?

Re: carburator problem

It looses speed when it's just under way,and sometimes it gains speed also by itself. As I said, I was told by an experienced boater that this is due to corrosion in the linkage between the carb and the throttle; I am trying to find out if the manufacturer supplies a kit of replacement parts to correct the problem.

Re: carburator problem

sounds more like a cylinder cutting out....a linkage problem would be less prone to cause cutting in and out.......I'd be looking to ignition.......

my meager opinion
