I was looking over my mid 80s johnson 50horse motor that i just picked up today and found that there was a carburator adjustment screw missing. Could anyone tell me what this screw controls its at the back of the carb where the air is drawn in, its brass and has no spring. If i can find a replacment screw, how many turns am i supposed to turn it in? Thanks in advance for any help here.

Re: Carburator Screws

Welcome Glastron!

Take a flashlite and take a look in the hole. If you see a jet in there, it's just a plug screw that's missing. You might even find it laying in the pan somewhere. If it's not there, the replacement PN is 317501. There's a little oring that goes on the plug to...PN 321117. You can get these from any John/Rude dealer....but take a good look around the pan first.

The plug just screws in snug.

Yep...controls the idle. Don't think the mid 80's 50hp had low end needles. Looking at the parts thingy, needles came back around 89'. So...if you could post the model number, we can tell ya' the year and PN for the needle.

Did ya' look in the engine pan yet?

Re: Carburator Screws

Your engine is a 74' Glastron. The needle part number (newest) is 431632. You can get a parts break down of the carb by going to www.evinrude.com/en-US/. Look in the lower left corner for diagrams and follow the instructions. Should help you out.
