Re: Carburator "tubing"
I believe that is a vent tube. Not sure what it does, but I have two Merc 800's of the same vintage (1970 and 1971) and they both have the vents.
The tube runs from the dist cap to a port on the front of the bottom cowling, directly in front of the carbs.
My 1971 motor does not have the tubing, but instead has a small screened vent plug installed in the dist cap.
maybe someone else can offer an explanation on what they are for.
