I am trying to find some information on Carburetor/Intake Upgrade kit for my 5.0L Mercruiser. Several months ago I found a link on this forum to an aftermarket company who sold a carburetor/intake as a kit. Carb/Intake/Gaskets/ect. But for the life of me I can not find the information. I have seen the links to the individual edlebrock carbs and IM but I was looking for the whole kit.

I have read through several resent threads discussing the advantages of a upgrading from a 2 barrel to a 4 barrel carb and I think I make a good candidate. Of course it boils down to proving I have bigger **** then the next guy. I own a 92 Thompson Cutlass Calais and with the current 5.0L rated at 180hp I switch between 3 props based on my load.

I typically run a heavy load which requires a 17" aluminum prop. I can get the boat to rip out of the water no problem but have to throttle back at WOT as not to accede my max RPMs.

With a medium load I run a 18" aluminum prop which will get me up out of the water no problem and give me very good top end without having to throttle back.

With just me and my wife I like to run a 19" prop which can get the boat out of the water with just a touch of effort but provides the best top end.

Don't ask me how I got 3 props. :|

So...with a light load and the 19" prop I am at a dead heat with my uncle's boat. He has some 21' closed bow with a 150hp Evinrude OB and always runs a light load. So in my best case scenario we are dead even.

So I am thinking that an extra 30-35hp from a carb/intake manifold will give me the advantage.

I think I will be able to sell the 17" prop and run the 18" for the majority of boating I do which involves a heavy load. Then when I run the 19" prop I could pick up a couple of extra MPH which will be enough to over take my uncle.

And depending how things work out I would consider buying a 19" SS prop.

Does anyone have any input?

And does anyone remember that company that sells the carb/intake manifold as a kit?

Ayuh,.... Welcome Aboard,.... You ain't gonna get there with just a carb manifold swap,...

That's only good for 'bout 20hp... Which is what Merc called the 5.0l/ 4bbl. carb at that time, the 200hp motor...

Throw on a set of Vortec heads, with the new manifold, 'n carb, Then yer lookin' at that kinda horsepower boost...

Thanks for the suggestion.

20hp is not going to make that big of a difference. Looks like I have more research to do.

You wouldn't happen to have a link to a thread where someone actually did that would you? I must really suck as searching...

Ayuh,... The 4bbl. up-grade, or the Vortec head up-grade,..??
