Engine - Mercruiser 198 305 Chevy (older engine but well cared for)
Carburetor - Rochester 2 barrel
Initial Symptoms - Engine hard to start, if started would run, then would stall after running in gear at approximately 3000. rpms.
Ran boat a couple of days later and it started and ran fine.
Started and ran boat a few days later and while running at approx. 3000 rpms the engine back fired several times and eventually stalled. Engine would then start but would not run over 1500 rpms. Eventually was able to get engine to run at 3000 rpms again but engine was running rough. At one point engine would stall when engaging transmission.
Found that carburetor was leaking.
Rebuilt carburetor.
After installing carb. engine started, ran for approximately 5 minutes then while attempting to adjust fuel mixture engine stalled at idle (1000 rpms). Engine would restart but would not idle below 1000 rpms. If allowed to idle at 1000 rpms engine continued to stall on numerous occasions. Engine was extremely difficult to get started. Eventually engine would not start.
At wits end!
Choke problems? Fuel pump? Fuel filters?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
