Now that I've ironed out my latest issue with electrical, thanks y'all!, I'm looking to reverting my carburation back to the original configuration.

The current carb has the larger base 3 3/4" x 2". The original carb has the smaller base of 3" x 1 7/8" and much smaller bore of 1.47" versus 1.75". The manifold is an Aquapower manifold that has the exhaust jury-rigged via a large rubber hose.

Aside from getting it back to stock, this thing is hard starting mainly because it's over carbed (that's my opinion). Once it's running it runs fine but fuel consumption seems a bit steep.

So my question is where is a reliable place to purchase a carb? Any shops to avoid or any to recommend?

Lets start with the motor serial number so we can determine what should be on the motor

Next most any carb can be adjusted to meet specs, it may take replacing the size jets installed, and in most cases that's easy

Mike's carbs is a good place and also good place to get parts

I have not had any success finding anything about this engine by its serial number. There isn't a tag anywhere on the back of the motor by the starter. All there is, is the number stamped in the block below cylinders 2 & 3 on the right side of the engine.

All Mercury and Mercruiser numbers after 1984 are one number, one letter, and six more numbers

Exp 1M123456

None of the Crab motors started with a 1 they all started with a zero
Look above the starter on the block for a plate

What motor and what year?

There isn't a plate. The boat is a 1969 Starcraft Starchief. The serial number on the outdrive is 2528633, which puts it in the era and indicates the motor was a 120 originally.

My suspicion is it is not the original motor.

Far from it. There is a lot more to Fuel Delivery Curves than just Jets.

Being that year and if it's still a 120, than it would have come with a Rochester 2GC carb
