Re: Card help

No idea what a "stock" adjustment is.

You've described a engine with fouled carburetors.... remove, clean, and rebuild them.

Re: Card help

There are no adjustable jets on a '79 55 hp. They are fixed. Are you talking about the idle speed screw?? Post a model # ??

Model 55975c
I'm just trying to get both carbs somewhat the same when I get does with the rebuild.
I think it's the idle screw.

Re: Card help

You have to accept the fact that there are no user mixture adjustments on these carburetors !-----What you think to be an adjustment is merely a plug that should be tight.---When you choke the motor additional fuel gets into the motor.-----This clearly indicates blockage in the carburetors !

Re: Card help

That tube is pressed in at the time of manufacturing.------------Not considered removable.---Find another carburetor or body.

Re: Card help

Also, there is a high speed jet in each carburetor (2 total). They are horizontal and in the bottom center portion of the float chamber, located way in back of the float bowl drain screws.

Make sure that they are perfectly clean as fuel must flow freely thru them before flowing to any other fuel passageway.

Re: Card help

Sorry, but there is only one high speed jet per carburetor.-------It always helps to post your location to find good used parts.

I realized my typo after inserting my reply. For some reason I was thinking 85hp (sigh). I edited/corrected that high speed jet reply.

New top carburetor bodies have been unavailable for some time.
The short shaft (15") engine carburetor #389293 since 1981.
The long shaft (20") engine carburetor #389587 since 1993.
Both carburetors listed between $150 and $190 at those times.

However, those are the part numbers which may help you find a good used one.
