My carb needs replacing and I was thinking about converting to fuel injection. Is this difficult and worth it. I have a 250 merc cruiser on my 1985 wellcraft 265 aft cabin

is it difficult?????? well it takes knowledge and ability to convert it to a USCG approved FI system.
Is it worth it. No.

Can't answer your question about how difficult the conversion is, but a few years back when I had a cuddy boat (it happened to be a 1985 Wellcraft) I replaced my Merc 260 carb engine with a new Merc 5.7 EFI engine. It's the same engine except for FI.
Absolutely NO noticable improvement in top end or power, although it did start easier when cold....
IMO you should rebuild or replace your carb. Much cheaper and just as reliable.

Ayuh,....

If you were to multiply the price of a New carb from Mercruiser by 10,....
That's about where you'd be, by buying the EFI from Mercruiser,+ installing it, Yourself....

It run ok?

If yes leave it alone.

That is my humble, inexpert, opinion.

How do you know it needs replacing versus rebuilding.
A rebuild kit is only $25 +/- plus cleaner.

Go with an edelbrock marine carb and you will be one happy boater and you'll only spend about $330.

I love the Edelbrock line of carbs - here is the Marine version #1409:

($335 at either Jegs or Summit Racing)

And to save a little money a used weber 4bbl used by Mercruiser is the same carb as the Edelbrock - watch ebay. Rebuild it and go have some fun.

Re: card to Fuel injection

The problem with rebuilding a carb is that it's a lost art really, and best a 50-50 proposition.

A new carb put it on and go a little adjustment is usually all you need.

Still like that holley and it's marine, please, please, please, go with a marine carb no matter who makes it.

Pick ya poison.
