Here in Missouri, our winters really suck. Rain, turning to freezing drizzle, then snow. Temps raise a bit, everything starts to melt, only to refreeze at night. Then more snow, freezing temps, and the plows don't run for 2" so everything gets slick. Black ice here and there.

So what do we do, pray for warmer temps. So, we got 'em. Got close to 70 today, now we are under a tornado watch and flash flood warnings! And tomorrow, freezing rain! A quick summer teaser and back to winter.

Oh well. . . .

Re: Carefull what you wish for

When I was stationed at FLW, MO the weather took the most dramatic swings. Wake up and it was 12 degrees and get a suntan at 75-80 that afternoon.

It also was talented at doing the opposite...... go to work at 70 degrees sunshine and have to be plowing snow in 23 degree weather by 3 pm.

It just seemed as if we all carried our wet weather clothes and cold weather clothes all the time.

I actually loved the area. I liked the weather (except the tornadoes) the hunting and fishing........ when I was considering that bold move ..... the market here would not support the sale of my home in VT.

Sounds like your weather is like ours. If you don't like it, just wait a day and it will be something in your favor. I hate it when it warms up after things have been frozen. Makes it rough to go off road during those times. I had a load of wood to dump in the back of my house. Drove off the drive into the yard and my truck sunk to the axles. That wasn't even funny getting a 11,000 pound truck (not counting the heaping load of wood) out of the yard.

Welcome to our world. In Wisconsin we have a saying. "Don't like the weather, stick around for 15 minutes, it will change." :D

And of course with all this wonderful weather..... we all know that we will have a Jan thaw cycle....... this lovely area in VT has five seasons annually with the 5th being MUD. That's the time of the year that we use equal mounts of gasoline and washer fluid...... really not pretty.

OldePharte I hope you do not see any tornado's and I have some great flash flood pictures from MO...... I need to transfer them to digital.

While in the Navy, I was stationed for 6 months in Saratoga Springs. We arrived before Thanksgiving and the next day got 8" or so of snow. The stuff stayed on the ground (was frequently replenished) until just before Easter when we left. 30 below and we would take midnight walks to Stewart's Ice Cream so the Bosslady could get her banana split (she was preggers). Didn't mind the cold and the cars started every day. She had to drive to Albany. Never had any problems other than finding out fast that cabs don't stop at red lights.

Came back to KC and about froze when it was in the 20s. Yea, a humidity issue.

I had a manager who transferred down from the Twin Cities area and he lived for winter. Poor guy never did get to use his cross country skis. So he took up biking and spent weekends biking across Iowa or Missouri for fun.

Yep, living in the Midwest sucks, being the battleground for competing frontal boundaries.

Last night, due to high winds (about 70 mph) a number of trees down and local power outages from falling trees and limbs. Freezing rain now.

I'll just wait for Spring and won't provoke Mother Nature anymore.

Re: Carefull what you wish for

Yesterday morning we had freezing fog and as the day went by, it got warmer. Last night at bed time, our house was 78 degrees with the thermostat set at 68. It was so warm in the house, I had to sleep with a fan on and still woke up in a pool of sweat.

We were planning on flying down to Miami and spending a week in the Keys where my sister lives but, plans got messed up so we gave our ticket to my daughter and step-daughter. This gives me a week with the grand-babies, so all is well.

Right now as I type this, my sis is fishing in the Florida Bay without me...:(

I am about 1 hour from Saratoga right now. I drive past the Navy about 2x a month. I am retired now and rumor has it that they are building a new commisary there.:D
