Junker or not your were able to drive your Mazda correct? These guys don't have their boats. If you were in their shoes I bet you wouldn't want to give it a rest. Obviously there is an issue with the design. These guys have been more than patient. CS needs to step up.

I traded it in, took the hit and moved on. It happens.

All of the CS dealers know the boat has major problems, and I'm guessing most other dealers would know also, so who is going to accept it as a trade-in for more then a couple of bucks. There is taking a hit, and there is getting the stuff beat out of you.

I can see your complaint about the engine swamping due to poor design, I agree that its an issue that needs to be addressed by the manufacturer. As far as performance due to heavy hull low HP, thats on the buyer. Iy should have been test drove before signing the dotted line. Its a big fiberglass deck boat hull, its going to need max hp to perform decently, its going to slide out in hard turns.

This was posted on The Hull Truth by another purchaser with challenges:

I purchased the same boat at the AC boat show last year and from the same dealer. It was powered by a 135 HO Etech. with 6 hrs on boat, it took on water and sunk. After boat was on dry dock and inspected the for hull damage "WICH THERE WAS NONE". Carolina skiff did NOTHING to help. The dealer said to contact Ins Co. The boat only had 6 hrs on it and nobody wanted to help. Skiff sent an independent surveyor to inspect boat and the report back that I got was there was nothing wrong with boat. "WHY DID IT TAKE ON WATER THEN" Ins Co stated that this was a manufacturer issue and that they were not going to cover claim. Skiff stated see the dealer. After months of frustration the Ins Co. hire a surveyor who found multiple issues with boat, Most importantly the rear scupper design flaw that skiff new about because they made 3 changes to it. Skiff knew of this problem and still denied liability. Nice company. Screw the working man. They NEVER stepped up to help. As of now I Believe they have asked for the boats back to make modifications and halted production to revise hull. Either way never helped me. The Ins Co finally covered claim and is going after skiff for all the float tests, tear downs and all related time and material. They have a open and shut case with their Surveyors report. Worst company to deal with.

For the guy who posted his tale of woe, good that his insurance stepped up, covered it, and took on the subrogation. The insurance company is better equipped to deal with the litigation over this--yet CS will probably settle quietly and continue to dodge the issue.

Gmark, your lawyer ought to look into the pending litigation and this claim and piggy-back.

I hate hearing the bad stuff about CS but no way would I defend or excuse what they are doing. I fear that they have left their initial vision--the great cheap work boat in the J series, with bare finishes--to get into the general recreational market for non-boaters who own boats or an attempt to compete with the finished-out mid-level boats. If they start selling sofa boats it will be the end of a beautiful relationship.

I knew at least one of the Funchasers had sunk, and I'm glad you posted this with the details. And while my boat was recalled to the factory, they told me the modifications they made were to the fuel filler line, seat back fixes and still unspecified "dash upgrades." They never said they made any modifications to the hull. If they did anything to my hull, they are keeping it quiet to avoid the lawsuits that are coming anyway, and if they did not, they really are trying to flush their reputation down the toilet.

I say give the manufacturer some time to make it right. I had a serious paint issue with a new boat. And the manufacturer stepped up and made things more than right.
Things like this take a lot of time. Some patience will be required and I know its hard not to get seriously frustrated when you shelled out all that coin for a brand new boat.

I don't think he meant anything derogatory about sofa boats. I have one myself (party barge). I think his point was Carolina Skiff is perhaps targeting a demographic they shouldn't be targeting.

Not everything Carolina Skiff does is bad for their reputation.

Student awaiting kidney transplant receives Carolina Skiff
A 17-year-old student in Kennebunk, Maine, who is in need of a kidney transplant was all smiles Monday when he received his dream boat through Portland Yacht Services and the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Ethan Houle got the royal treatment as he was escorted in an SUV limousine to Coast Guard Sector Northern New England, which served his favorite meal of prime rib for lunch, followed by a tour of the station.

Then Houle was taken to Portland Yacht Services, where his boat ? a Carolina Skiff J 1450 named Ethan?s Wish ? was waiting.

Thanks for the info on this thread. I am a CS owner (sea chaser), bought used. I have been thinking of buying a new one. One thing that I will take into consideration before spending my money is how the customers are treated. Seems to me it would be cheaper in the long run to make this right. Although the new boat I am (was) looking at is a time tested model, it just does not feel right to reward poor customer service.

mac--let them know. It might trickle down to help out these guys who got the bad boats.

And no more jokes about how flat bottom boats like the J14 "will knock your kidneys out."

I know any solution will take time, but when you hear one has sunk, it makes me very leery about taking it out on the water. So at this point waiting for them to come around pretty much means I am going to lose a second summer of using my boat. And like all of us, I'm running out of summers.

Right,, cannot wait to ride on one,,,, no~ I'll pass even though insurance is paid up. Anyone that does a pre-purchase search on Bing or Google will pass.

That is another expense associated with this fiasco....still need to pay the insurance..............Really I don't think we are going to hear anything from Carolina Skiff because of everything that is going on with this and other models within their product line......................
What else is new.........................

Letter mailed from my lawyer to Carolina Skiff this past Friday with a 15 day response time frame on how they plan to address. To show how efficient lawyers are.....this letter sat on lawyers secretary desk for 2 weeks (lost in the shuffle)......Based upon reply from Carolina Skiff will determine next step(s).

Well?????
