Re: carolina skiff

THe only problem I had with CS's is the handling at low speeds. Because of the flat bottom (no keel) they tend to skid sideways and are a real handful around docks.

I understand they've addressed this on their new models.

I have the 1980 DLX been running it in the bay.the boat handles fine and is dry, good boat for the money.

Smallblock,

I have heard that the Carolina Skiffs will beat the crap out of you in the rough stuff, but are very durable. The old Whalers are the same. I owned a Scout 172, very stable but wear your kidney belt hen it gets rough. I can imagine that the Carolina Skiff with its flat hull design would be even worse. I sold my Scout because I was tired of getting beat up and wanted a bigger boat.

Re: carolina skiff

We run 2 carolina skiffs at our terminal down here in Galveston. They are used very often and are kept in the water. The problem we have had is that the interior seams cracked and separated from the main part of the hull. Two other skiffs, made by Johnson Bros. Marine (make Bateau flatbottom) have undergone the same abuse and have held up perfectly. Just my experience.
