Tominello, I will presume that this is a fiberglass boat with a traditional plywood floor, and that you have glassed the floor to make it waterproof. Now you can use a textured marine vinyl flooring, those plastic meshed tiles, even household linolium would work.

Alternatively, use several coats of tinted resin over the floor, sand till smooth and add non-slip sand to final coat of resin or deck paint.

Look into Rhino-Liner.

No slip, waterproof and takes more abuse than the other options.

Thanks for the advice.

Yes it is a fiberglass boat with a plywood floor.

Does glassing the floor actually make it water proof. I thought that I read on this forum that it does not.

Thanks

Boomyal,
I am about to start on my flooring project and wanted to know what the texture of that stuff was like?
Was it like a rubberized non-skid surface?
If so, it sounds like just what I want. Low maintenance and non-skid.

Chappy

Cabela's carries their own house brand of do-it-yourself rubberized coating.

Yes Chappy, it is non-skid. A small pebbley grain texture. Friendly to the bare feet and non skid. Never slipped and fell out of the boat in near 30 years. :D That link I posted also has the best price that I have found.

Properly applied fiberglass covering of your plywood floor will make it waterproof. If you're using 1/2" plywood, I would block under the floor where ever you're going to bolt/screw anything down like seats etc. Predrill your holes and apply a sealer before you run the screws in.

Re: Carpet Alternative

I used a 2-part polyurethane coating on my plywood deck for my 14'Lowe.First coat was a thick, gray coating(i like to think of it as liquid caulk)that cured in 24hrs.The second coat was a thinner gray color that you apply, throw rubber granules over(sand hurts your feet)then backroll. The end result is a waterproofed,non-skid floor, which is soft to the feet due to the granules and the base coat. The top coat is supposed to have the UV protectant in it.It is a product from Sonneborn which I use regularly in my job(commercial waterproofing)My co-worker has used it on his Jonboat and after 3 years it still looks new.He even painted the inside with the top-coat.If you go the urethane route,I wouldn't recommend the pressure-treated as it wont be needed and it could cause gassing off in the base coat.

Re: Carpet Alternative

Thanks for all the information. I will start a new thread with pics of the project once I start. Darn garage needs to be cleaned out first. :(
