Carpet Glue Removal

So here is what I have,

I need to remove the carpet/glue residue from the walls. I tried the oven cleaner trick which seemed to assist but it did not remove the glue.

I hit it with the wire wheel, and that didn't seem to do a lot.

Hit me with your best trick for removing this stuff.

I just finished doing exactly what you have to do. I found paint stripper worked the best. I used the stuff from wally world called StripKeen or something. It ate the glue off in less than a minute. Worked especially well in the nooks and crannys. I just brushed it on , waited a couple minutes then scraped off the majority. Hit it again, and just used my brush to get the remaining bits off.

I also first tried a grinder , then a 3M stripper. While they work, it was way more work involved. I'll bet you could have it stripped in half a day with the paint stripper.

Half a day equates to about two or three nights for me and I can handle that. After the labor intensive foam removal. I'm not interested in any more heavy labor, so if paint stipper works, I'm on it.

Let my fingers do the walking and found a thread on using MEK to remove glue from a Tinny. With proper precautions, it should do the trick. Will give it a try tonight.
As I'm working outside with a steady breeze, I should have good ventilation and I will wear a respirator.

Any feed back on using MEK?

Hello, I use it at work alot but is used mostly to degrease parts and may not work on hard dried glue unless you can put a rag or towel on it and keep it wet. it may soften the glue this way hope that helps. Forgot to add to use good rubber gloves as the thin gloves will fall apart.

I also forgot to mention use the good gloves. Also, I tried using acetone. It did a good job of wiping it clean after using the paint stripper. But , it dries so fast it doesnt get a chance to really remove the heavy dried glue.

Find a thickened or gelled stripper or adhesive remover with methylene chloride (aka dichloromethane) in it (check MSDS). The methylene chloride will eat up just about any paint or adhesive, and the thickener/gel wil keep it "moist" long enough to do the job.

Wash down the area not long after using though, because methylene chloride left on aluminum for too long can start to attack it:

Paint stripper and a putty knife and a rag is the easiest way I've found
for carpet glue. Then wipe down with solvent like lacquer thinner. If you do a section at a time, you'll likely find that by the time you're done spreading,
you can go back where you started and scrape gobs of it off with the knife.
I think you can find a citrus-based paint remover that may work a little slower, but won't be so noxious.
