My family has a place in Northern Michigan - you're right: totally different up there. I can walk barefoot on aluminum most of the time if need be.

It would be funny if it wasn't almost the truth. Do you ever see Kid Rock up there?

Actually, kinda' funny - I've seen him here in Nashville and never up in Michigan.

He and I are about the same age, and he was from Romeo, MI and I was in Detroit. Dunno' if we ever crossed paths as kids or not, but I have run across him down here twice (not in concert). I do know a lot of the places he talks about though.

Funny, the sun/heat isn't really a reason in Northern MN where most of our lakes are located. We are excited to get 80 degrees for the afternoon. 85 and we are ecstatic but 90 and we complain.

I removed the carpet and padding in my 48 Sea Ray. The sole was finished gel-coat. Nice. There was a carpet runner I use for company, but remove for fishing. I have no need for carpet myself. Dirt and mold among other things.

I'm surprised of the amount of carpet used here.

After read all or most of these replies, you can see what to use. And that is whatever YOU decide, being how it looks split either way. I guess YOU have to decide for yourself what to do. We actually have 2 seasons. 9 months of winter and 3 months of bad sledding...... Or, 9 months of winter and 3 months of road construction.

Was bad sledding season all last year....my sleds never saw the light of day.

Blue carpet, oh yeah, makes me wonder when I see people who opted for the single gel coat color option where every part of the boat is blue, red or even black, etc. I see Crownlines on the lake like this. I think the sun in Canada would even give you some trouble. My carpet is tanish and all this carpet talk makes me want to snap it in this season.

It appears to be more of a regional choice. Most all of the boats in my area have either rid the boat of carpet or are considering it. Hardwood floors seem to be the choice of most. I can see where the type of boat matters. Most here are either fishermen or liveaboards. Neither seem to want carpet either due to ease of maintenance or to keep things simple. I like the carpet on a friends ski boat, but it's his to take care of, not mine.
