Carpet Pad Question

We're looking at getting new carpet installed in our basement.

Other than buying a good quality pad, is there anything else I need to know?

One store we visited today sold some sort of rubber pad that has a lifetime warranty on it. They say that when it's time for the new carpet to be replaced, this pad won't need to be.

Are they selling me junk?

Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Re: Carpet Pad Question

All I can tell ya is that you want the best pad you can get under your carpet
That and I would still change the nasty thing out when changing the carpet,,,

I'm sure you already know this, but be 100% certain there is absolutely no moisture intrusion into the basement before putting in carpet. If the area already had carpet, then nevermind. :D

Re: Carpet Pad Question

The rubber pad is usually used for infloor heat systems. Lifetime warranty or not , it's going to wear out , especially in the high traffic areas. If the basement doesn't have infloor heat I'd use a 8lb density rebond pad. It will last just as well at about half the price of the rubber pad. As a installer thou , the rubber pad sure does cut easier , to me anyway.:)
