Carpet v.s Coating

Yestereday I put up a post about carpet and someone recommended a coating. So I spend some time researching them today. There seems to be a lot of diffrent brands.

Are there any that stand out?
From what I read it seems like a product with rubber with have a nice texter to wal around on barefoot (compared to sand). Is that true?
Does dirt get trapped or are they easy to clean?
Do they offer any protection (like a truck bedliner)?

Have any of you conferted from carpet to coating? Did you like how it looked?

My new boat has vinyl deck covering that is simply great. Its grippy and easy to clean. I never want carpet in my boat again.

The only carpet that I'll ever have again will have snaps around the edge so I can remove it. I'm a Salt-Water guy and we don't do so well with carpet. Just the fiberglass for me with a walk-area of non-slip and I prefer the pre-manufactured type as opposed to the "sand in the paint" route. I went that way on a sailboat and it's very uncomfortable on the barefeet.

I've heard good stuff about "MariDeck" products. I know they sell both the glue-down mat and the rubberized "paint" that you can put down like regular paint, but with a texturized roller. They may carry that here at iboats, but if not, 'Over-tons (no dash, but iboats doesn't like that name, lol)' I know has it and I think West Marine as well.

Any product that's applied like carpeting or even the vinyl mat has the propensity to allow water underneath it. Water doesn't need much of a gap to get in, so in an ideal world, whatever you put down would be easily removeable for maintenance.

My boat was redone with "Dura-bark" roll on textured coating. Great stuff but it is hard to clean the texture.
I have to scrub with a stiff brush & Comet.

I have a Chaparral with "diamond surface" non-slip texture on the gelcoat floor. I have snap-in carpets but have never used them - they just get wet and have to be taken in and out and cleaned.

Any way to duplicate that diamond surface? I made the mistake of checking out some of the newer boats when picking up some supplies.

Unfortunately, I don't think so - its molded into the fiberglass floor.
