oars don't have T's and are too long to store upright, but a paddle can be short enough to stand up next to a console (I have one standing IN the console of my 21). it would be in the way standing up by itself.
A T handle paddle makes a good boat hook.
After you get past the primary safety issue, it all depends on your docking situation, and other factors (freeboard, depth, etc.)
You can also cut a small notch in a paddle, oar or shove pole to help with some minor grabbing, like lines or the edge of a dock; we duck hunters do that for our decoy lines.
