I thought it would be a good idea for all Carver owners to get together and trade problems, repairs and anything that comes to mind.

I have a 1989 Carver 3607 and I'm in the process of replacing the refrigerator. I chose a NovaKool RFU9000 12 volt only model.

Now I need to figure out how my batteries are configured.

I was told that the 3 12 volt batteries are configured as follows: one for the port engine. one for the starboard and one for the generator. But I've been told I am mistaken.

Now I need to wait until spring to have a look.

I'm looking forward to see who has what.

The third would be a house battery.

I've got a baby Carver with only two that I haven't messed with and have no need - just use them both to keep the radio playing.

When I had a 3 battery system on my Bayliner 34, my set up was one battery for both motors, one house (that could be added to the engine one) and a third just and only for the gen - until I hooked a bilge to it.

In my previous Carver Santego it had 1 - 12 volt starter & 2- 6 volts house batteries. I could stay without shore power for at least 3 days and everything still ran fridge, radio etc.

This one I have now, had all 3 batteries replaced just before I bought it in September 2013 and the PO/seller told me that was how they were set up.

I gave it no thought until last summer and the house (?) would go dead in 24 hours. That's when I discovered the fridge was fried and ran constantly.

So now I will need to see just how my batteries are really configured.

On another topic, the guy who did my winterizing told me the aft head is pumping slow. Does that mean it needs a new seal kit ?

And, is that a simple thing to replace ?

you'll have to run it and listen to the motor could be that or could be clogging seals or a crimped line - who knows. And may be a piece of cake or may be a peice of crap (pun intended)
