I'm considering purchasing a 1988 Carver Montego equipped with twin 4 cyl. Mercruiser's @ 171 H.P.; the boat weighs 6300 pounds. Will the twin 4 cyl. engines have enough power to cruise at 25 m.p.h., or will the boat be underpowered?

I'm guessing that's TOTAL hp, correct? I wouldn't think 170 hp would push around that much weight very well, but should do 25 decently, if not much more. What style of boat is it?

It's a cruiser. Sleeps 4, with head and small galley area. The 171 H.P. was for each engine...total 340 H.P.

Thanks for the reply.......

I have a 25ft Grady with twin Merc 170hp 4cyl(470s) that cruises in the mid-twenties at 3/4 throttle that weighs around 7,000 lbs.
