We here in NJ enjoy sightly better gas prices then the rest of the country.

But can someone please explain to me why they have a cash or credit price per gallon ??

Re: Cash or credit card gas price Question?

Credit cards charge the store owner a percentage of the sale.

Most businesses absorb the credit card fee...some pass it on to the customer!

Ever since the high gas prices many gas stations have a dual pricing system up here too.

Credit fees can eat into profits and people rarely use cash for gas anymore.

At least we are permitted to pump our own gas here in VT!

He hit it right on the head, CREDIT CARD FEES!!!! can be as high as 4% of the sale amount. Technically it is against your cc agreement to offer a lower price for cash, but the cc company's do not seem to be pursuing it.

Debit card fees are paid by your bank / CU and I know if I use my debit card more than 5 times a month the fees get passed to me and I get charged.

I am not sure of the speed pass fob but I imagine they are absorbed by the gas company and aren't you charged interest just like a charge card on them. They only work at specific stations so that means you will be back.

Re: Cash or credit card gas price Question?

Maybe someone can chime in on the fob question, i don't have one.

All i know is i carry cash and only use it at the gas station. And by the way gas is going back up here. 1.59 9/10ths.

Whats with the 9/10ths thing i want to know.

Where did that come from, i never had a 9/10ths coin, that smaller than a penny??

The FOB thing as far as I know is just a credit card that reads via RF instead of the black magnetic stripe on the back.
