I repowered my boat this spring with a 350mag (originaly what was in it). the number off of the block is 92012842, and i cannot find any information on it. I was told that it is a mercruiser remanufactured long block from the dealer, and i paid 3200 for just the block (i know i see all of these prices from rapid marine for more than half the price) live and learn. I had another dealer search the number for me from merc and it does not exist. My question is where can i find info on this number, as i have found a few sites that end up being a dead end. Thanks in advance.

Re: Cast number for remanufactured long block

best i know. you need mercruiser service bulletin 2002-08. it's to help id the block when the serial number is gone.

on the ft. of the engine starboard side, just under the head is a boss (something bolts up to the ft. of this boss, but my guess is the number is on the top of the boss). there will be a number stamped on it. the example of the number in the sb is m01187mh. the last three characters are of importance. in the example the 7 is the year which could be 1997, 1987 or 1977. the mh is the type of engine. in the example it's a 350 v8, mercruiser models 5.7L, 350 mag mpi, black scorpion ski, etc.

best i can do for ya. if ya can't find the sb online somewhere, post the number up and i'll see if i can find any info in the bulletin for you.

the number ya posted up i don't know anything about.

I'll have to take a closer look at the block myself, as the number i recieved was the number the dealership gave me, because i asked him for the block number. I will not be able to get to the boat until next weekend, i'll take a look then. Thanks though.
