I didn't know this, but I soon found out why all the baby ducks keeped disappearing from the pond across the street. I thought it was a fox, cat, coon, or skunk getting to them.. So I set up a trap and nothing.. For 2 weeks I caught nothing and still baby's were missing.. Then one day I was counting the baby's coming across the pond with mama duck.. This duck had the fuzziest, cutiest little baby's following her and by the time she made it across, she had 4 left out of 7.. I couldn't believe my eyes as they got sucked under water that fast.. So when the kids come over to feed the ducks and they always ask me, Where are all the Baby ducks? "Hum, truth can cuase tears"...So, I just tell the kids that there are just abunch of confused males.. I didn't want to tell them that the pond holds 13lb. catfish and they like to snack on the baby's.. It is kind of funny to see for the first time..
Now I have to raise the baby's at my house, the down fall of that is, that they sneak in my house if I leave the slider opened.. Oh,my god, the mess, now I have a turkey who thinks its a duck and that too comes peeking at my slider wanting in.. Timmy ol'Tool is now a pet not Dinner..

Muskies love ducklings, small dogs or anything else they can get their fangs around. Occassionally even a swimmer. Catfish also.

I witnessed a Muskie take down a adult Canadian Goose last summer right at my boat dock, that goose did get away but had been pulled under several times has several other geese flayed about the one being attacked until it was free.

I have a top water duck lure that works well in the spring and late fall..Actually caught one on it...But at 40$ a pop I use it sparingly..

Largemouth bass and northern pike are also likely to grab anything that moves in or on the water, but I have a catfish that eats squirrels.

There is a pecan tree that has a low limb that overhangs my catfish pond. One October day I was up there just chilling and enjoying the break from 100 degree summer days. I noticed a squirrel working its way out the limb and bending it down near the water. There was a pecan out there. As the squirrel got closer to the nut the limb almost touched the water.

Suddenly, there was a great eruption in the water and a big channel cat came halfway out of the water and GRABBED THE SQUIRREL!!

Well, I was astounded! I have seen on TV those Amazonian fish that come out of the water to grab bugs and the like, but catfish.. . . and squirrels??

Before long there was a new disturbance in that spot. It was the catfish...
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
>
putting another pecan on the branch.
