Re: Cats

IMHO if they {cats} don't catch the mice and rats they are not worth the gunny sack to toss them in the river. But I do belive in rescue pets. Buying from breeders is not always a good thing. I prefer pound puppies myself. Keep this in mind, when some jerk kicks your door in to rob you blind is that cat going to protect your little women? Cats are individuals and dogs are pack animals like wolfs, you mess with a dogs pack and you mess with the dog. It will protect its pack. My girlfriend has a Welsh Corgie and a Pit Bull mixed with what we don't know. The corgie was a road side winter rescue {the breeder tossed her out because of one ear that won't stand up, vet told us she was show quailty if not for the ear} and the pit was a pound puppie because of looking like a pit. Both were fixed as pups and the corgie is the one you better worry about, the pit will lick you to death but the corgie goes for the,,,,waist area shall we say,,,OUCH!!...ANIMAL :D

You ever watch it takes a thief? Never once did they break into a house with a dog in it and have the dog defend the home in any way. Any dog that actually could defend my home is going to be WAY to big for her to handle. She is only 5'3 110lbs. IF I were to break into a house myself, a dog isnt going to stop me.....IMHO this type of logic is a falicy (most of the time. granted if you have certain breads they will protect your home well)

Re: Cats

I absolutely despise people who let their cats run wild. In the country I have no issue with it, but I am in town. This would be a 100% indoor cat.

I have been in plenty of homes with cats, and most don't smell bad or anything. Yes cat hair is always going to be an issue......but a little extra cleaning is worth making here happy.

As soon as I get something I will post some pics.....

Nice pics puddle jumper.

Re: Cats

this is our 1 y/o Poh, think maybe she has a safe environment. any cares this was yesterday afternoon, like this for 2 hours. she is an inside/outside cat, as a kitten she learned to go thru Tasha's legs as Tasha went thru the dog door. 1st time she got out, Tasha was raising cane in the back yard. when i went out to see what was up, Tasha had picked her up and was bringing her back inside.

Enjoy Hunter. The stripe on his right arm is really cool. The only problem we had with Orkin and the plants was that she wanted to use the soil as a litter box. we just had to wrap old towels around the base of the plants for a while. It didnt take long for her to learn.

Re: Cats

It seem this thread has turned into a show your cat! Although I do not have a picture, I would like to tell you all about him.

His name is "Fat*****" (20lbs.), and never in a hurry. He is an orange tiger outdoor cat, but comes and goes as he pleases. He used to chase lizards, but has moved on to larger game (thank goodness, our house was becoming a POW camp for lizards!)! His largest confirmed kill is a squirel. Althought he still enjoys the occassional bird, snake and mouse. His playmate is a young english springer spaniel named uno (named after the 1 nut that actually dropped). Our pets are an interesting group! We have no need for cat food, Fat***** prefers the dogs food and won't touch the kitty chow! It's the same for the kitty litter. He goes out with the dog in the morning, diggs his hole, proceeds to discharge and even covers it back up. I like his system!!

In the country is worst place to let one loose, they will exterminate the local wildlife. Fortunately around here the owls, eagles, hawks and snakes get them before they get to big plus they make nice moving targets. Keep them in your house or in town, out here they are pests!

Re: Cats

I had a cat for twenty years. His name was "Sam I am".

He was an inside cat, although he escaped once and spent five days in the neighbors shed at 0 degree temps. He survived but was glad to come back in.

Sam was a real character. He had a personality all his own. He kept the two dogs in line even though they outweighed him by 60 pounds, at least.

We could not keep a lit candle in the house. He would lick his front paws and snuff them out. Weird but comical.

I miss him but twenty years was a good life.

Re: Cats

tashasdaddy,

It's funny. My first cat was named "Kiki". I had him as a boy. Kiki lived to be 14. "Sam I am" was a perfect image of "Kiki" that my wife found for me as a present for our one year wedding anniversary.

Both were just generic cats but both had lot's of personality.

Kiki was a stray kitten that I found in a snowbank-dropped off by some jerk.. Sam I am was an unwanted litter leftover. Both had great lives. One of nine, as they say.

Re: Cats

Congrats on the new member of the family Pony. I use to have a cat by the name of tuffy (do to the little tuff of hair that he had on his head). Tuffy lived with us for 13 years and in the end was diagnosed with a disease that lead to him being put down. Tears were shed by every family member, even by me. I miss the cat, the rare thing about him is that he didn't meow like a normal, cat he had a quiet meow that I found odd (almost like he was mute). The oldest cat we have every owned was 18 years old and died of cancer, this cat was huge but like Tuffy was very lovable and very intelligent. Our cats have always roamed free in the country but after they have been fixed. I would love to have another cat but would like a Jack Russell Tarrier instead for some reason.

Re: Cats

we've had our Jack Russel. he was a good one, did not have all (but some) of the bad hyper traights.

Kiki showed up at my door and said she lived here. Sam, was the last of the litter, and was going to the pound. didn't tell anyone i was getting him, it was spontaneous. he may have short legs, and have trouble jumping on things, but he doesn't know it.
