drifting with the wind, big clouds of bait on the graph, bouncing a slab off the bottom, chatting with a couple in another boat - we're all jigging so you can get close enough to talk without crowding each other - bam! hooked a nice 4 lb hybrid striper. got 'im in the boat, glanced at the screen and saw a nice big "haystack" - a hybrid and/or white bass feeding frenzy - tossed out a marker bouy.

dealt with the fish in the boat & went back to fish my marker - suddenly another strike. "I'm marking a pretty good school over here," I invited the other boat to fish with me. now, this one is pulling pretty hard, till I notice...the lure's caught on the marker line...pulled it into the trolling motor & wrapped it around the shaft........who knew a trolling motor could fight so hard...........talk about embarassing.......now I'm at the mercy of the wind, sitting on the bow extracting the string, marker drifted off the spot......we never did find that school again.........

Re: caught my own marker

:D I've done something similar. Fishing with my uncle in his 2006 pro craft, well of course one of us would get hung up and most of the time half to turn around, to get the lure unhung. Well I liked to throw a shallow runner lure out to drift behind the boat when trolling, I forgot not just once but twice to real the darn shallow runner in and it got tangled up in the trolling motor twice.
Same uncle same boat we were fishing in a slew, we just had got on the water and made our first stop to try and fish out, well my uncle found out the trolling motor wasn't working (wouldn't check the switches) he assumed the battery was dead. Well I already asked him if he charged the batteries since our last 3 day fishing trip on Weiss lake and he said no, I kept my mouth shut because I didn't feel like swimming back to the boat ramp lol. Anyhow the current was pushing us along in the slew we were sort of in a panic (should of dropped anchor) and here he cranked it up, I thought I had my reel reeled all the way in and the next thing I know he's hollering "get your rod, get your rod" I didn't reel it all the way in, got hung up and drug all the line out. So we had to track down were I was hung finally found it and got out of the sticky situation. To try and make the best of the so far bad day my uncle used a paddle in other slews, but on the main river I would crank it up and move us away from the bank just to try and keep from turning around and going back home, the boating traffic was bad just to add to it all. We didn't get one friggin bite by the way. Turned out my uncle found out later the switch was cut off on the trolling motor or cut on 24 volt when the batteries were to low to operate at 24 so all he had to do is swap to 12volt and go.

Re: caught my own marker

First time out in my 1978 Procraft I got this spring, I had never used a bow mount trolling motor and got my line to close and when I went to move the boat a little, I thought I had caught a state record fish. Found out I got my line in the motor. Ended up doing it 2 or 3 times before figuring out to keep my line away.
