Causes of water intrusion in outdrive?

What are some ways water can get in to the outdrive and cloud oil?Engine in question is a Volvo Penta 92 4.3.Thanks.

Intermediate, and upper seals of outdrive, worn O-rings at dipstick fitting, fill & drain fittings to name a few........
