where should this be in relation to the bottom of the (V) when the engine is mounted correctly. Should it be even, just below,or just above? Mine is even and the boat list to the left and steers hard. Would you rase it and if so how high? I'm in the top hole now....mercury 150 hp...21' aluminum boat.....Thanks

Re: cavitation plate question

It should be level with the bottom, if you crave for speed the higher you can run the motor and hold the prop bit the faster it will go, most people don't worry about it though it's a lot of tinkering around

Agreed.

Typical range is 1" above to level with the bottom.

Re: cavitation plate question

your list is probably a unbalanced load + prop torque, especially in the stearn. steering, tinker with you trim and tilt.

Re: cavitation plate question

At the dock, she sit's level in the water. going down the channel she wants to wonder all over the place. I can correct this by lifting the prop up. Last night I was in a buddie's boat-18'with a 115hp. I drove this and very little pressure on the wheel, rides level and no pull. His plate is about one inch above the bottom of the (V). When using the kicker-trolling--the boat goes straight as a arrow. How do you correct prop torque? I am running a 14x17 pitch prop. Thanks

Re: cavitation plate question

Turn the trim tab in the direction the steering is pulling

Re: cavitation plate question

On my V hull I lifted the engine so the Anti-vent plate sits 1" above the bottom of the V. The boat runs better now (about 5km/h faster), though I still have to trim out a little to get the steering light.
