ok my hull has the step up under the back i dont know what that is called but im trying to get the motor set up what i was told was to get the boat level level the motor and take the level from the v on the upper part of the hull and level the cavitation plate and that is where it needs to be can anyone tell me for sure if this is true or is there a better way thanks

Re: cavitation plate

That is a good starting point, danny. If you get into fine tuning the rigging later on you might move the anti-ventilation plate (often called a cavitation plate) up an inch or two.

im trying to get it to ride better when i bought it it was set hi and above 55 it chinawalk bad it was so hi the speed hole in the foot was out the water when i lowered it the thing would get worse but the boat shop told me i had to have the cavitation plate level with the hull no matter what i really want it to be safe and setup rite

Re: cavitation plate

OK, we need more info and what your trying to solve in detail..Your talking serious speed and some boats do chinewalk, either because they are running beyond their intended speed or other reasons.Need what boat/motor boats rating.
Most folks try to have as little motor in the water as possible.Raise it to a point just before venting(cavitation) becomes a problem.Be sure it pumps water. In my opinion the less in the water the less it will effect the handling. The speed experts may be able to suggest ways to limit the chinewalk.

your teminology has me baffled..

what make is your boat??

what is this step on your hull you describe??

is it a PAD?

when you say "the v on the upper part of the hull", I am lost

the spot you want close to even with your cavitation plate would be the BOTTOM of the hull

it will be the lowest part of the hull that is effecting the water flow to the prop!!!

at 55mph the shape of your hull plays a huge roll in performance, and well as trim setting...

take a picture.....it helps A LOT!!!

the step up im talking about is the pad the boat is a stealth made by vivian boats the motor is efi 150 the prop is power tech 4 blade 23 pitch the trubble i have is the have it set so hi the speed gage didnt work becase the hole on the foot is out the water on plane it will slip the prob only when connering the cavitation plat was set about 3 inches above the pad and it had a whale tail the boat will rock bad at 55 mph and the lower you set the motor the sonner it starts to rock i took the whale tail off and set the cavitation plate level with the pad im gonna try it to day i just didnt know where the cavitation plate needed to be set at

Re: cavitation plate

Danny I know what you're talking about, sounds like a bass boat. I had a 18'
bass boat with a 150hp on it, I had the cav plate perfectly even with the bottom on the transom, not the step. If you lower it to the level of the step you're going to have great holeshot but low speed. Keep that cavitation plate even with the transom. Install a hydrofoil on the cav plate. Also, think about getting a jack plate, preferably a hydraulic one. Then you can adjust it after your hole shot while on the water.

Re: cavitation plate

Do you have a hydrofoil on the motor? Hydrofoil will keep the bow down. I also used to fill the forward livewell to help keep the bow down, and put my trolling motor battery in the forward storage area. I never got up to 65mph before, but had mine over 50mph and it did get very scary unless it was balanced well.
