Hello....

I have a cd player in my boat and the ground and hot wires go directly to the battery. I removed the battery to charge it and hooked up my stereo wires from the deck backwards (hot to ground and ground to hot on the battery). It worked before I pulled the battery out but now... after hooking it up backwards then hooking it up right, I got nothing. Won't turn on. It does have a 15 amp fuse on the hot wire that isn't blown.... did I fry it?

Surly you have some sort of inline fuse on the hot wire?
You blew that -
If not then
On a side note i see no reason to remove your battery or disconnect anything from it to charge it

First off all, the 15 amp fuse you had on the positive side is to high. That should be a 10 amp fuse at the most. Second, a fuse will rarely save you if you wire something like a radio backwards. Some elctronics have internal circutry to protect them from incorrect wiring, but many don't. I assume yours didn't, so now it's dead. If it's a nice radio worth fixing, it can be fixed. If it's something easily replaceable, buy a new one.

Yeah... there is a 15 amp(not blown) on the hot wire. I was thinking it was too high for it too..

I pulled the battery to have autozone to check/charge it cause it wasn't holding a charge... found out later my bilge pump got left on.:redface:

I do have another cd player I pulled from my thunderbird before I junked it... Its a fairly new one... maybe 2 years old. Are most cd player wires the same? Could I just transfer over the new cd player and match the wire colors up? I don't have a manual for either.

Yes, the speaker output wiring is universal...or at least for the past dozen years or so. Red wire + black wire -. The memory power wires are usually yellow and get wired direct to save presets.
If not a marine grade radio, don't expect it to get wet and work well...

Sorry, missed the fuse thing
Agree with triumphrick - Get a good cover for it- lots of them on Ebay- I got two (one for a spare) for about 10 bucks each

It did get wet but not much... it's tucked under the window but still got a few drops on it.... needless to say the face was off and so was the power when it got wet.

I've been wondering about a cover... I like it!
