Re: ** CD Player **
Actually, oversampling has nothing to do with how many times a bit is read. All CD players read the bits only once. Oversampling is a technology for conversion of those bits from digital to analog signal that you can hear. The "digital to analog converter" (DAC) is run at multiples of the CD frequency of 44Khz in order to produce higher fidelity sound with cheaper DACs (8x means 8 times 44Khz). It is pretty much a standard practice in all the CD players you are likely to buy in this market.

So if you need a system with a buffer, you need to look for that feature or it will skip. In general, I am not aware of in-dash units with buffers. Only the disc changes have it typically and they do this with shock absorbers rather than memory buffers.

A better solution these days, if you are computer savvy, is to not bother at all with a CD player. Simply get a protable digital audio player, load up your songs on the PC, and then transfer them to the player. Then simply bring the player to the boat, hook it up through an "AUX" input on the deck and you will have hours of music with no skipping! And you have a great portable audio player for when you are not on the boat! Let me know if you are interested in this option and I can explain more....

Amir
