I just boat a CDI stator (16 amp) for 88' V6 200 hp merc. Noticed the other it was pumping 18volts, to high!! The battery was dead, replaced it with a new bat. Still had the 18 volt problem. Bought a new rect/reg (mercury factory rect/reg). MERCURY RECTIFIER # 5707
OE # : 62351A, 62351A2.

Still getting 18volts unless I run every electronic and running lights. What is up? Are they compatible?

-Thanks, confused, frustrated
andy

CDI stator #174-5456

Andy

Some of the '88 200's had a 9 amp stator. Might better check yours just to be safe.

Dave..

The 16 amp stator requires a regulator

Re: CDI/Rapair Stator and Merc rect/regs???

I'm a little confused. My old stator pumped out 16 amps. And I always had a rect/reg in one. It was fine....But here's the catch. Today I tested the rect/reg...It was bad. I mean I just ordered and already it was bad. One of the stator terminal pins was loose (maybe got knocked loose in shipping). Didn't think to even test the other day. But today ran tests out of the merc manual and bingo it's bad. Hopefully that's it.

I am going to throw a big fuss from the company I ordered it from. I know that there is a strict no refund policy on ignition components. But come on, what's from stopping them from sending me damaged parts. If they did they could just hide behind there no refund policy. Bunch of crap.

-andy

No, I'm the one that is confused. I thought the rectifier # 5707 is only a rectifier, no regulator.

Dave..

I guess I am confused too too. When I bought it, it was under the category rect/reg. It's the same one I had before, and that one never had a problem with the voltages (and I never had a regulator).

-Thanks for your continuous input
andy

It appears as if your system is not regulated. If Laddies is correct in that the 16 amp stator requires a regulator, then you may have the wrong stator, which was the reason for my original post. What's your serial #?

Dave..

Re: CDI/Rapair Stator and Merc rect/regs???

Well as for the serial number, I don't know. Let's see if you can help me here. I had an 89 V6 200 HP with a 20'' shaft, but it died (no need to go into that horror story...oil injection failed). Bought a rebuilt 88' V6 200 HP, but it had a 25'' shaft. So the mechanic (great guy, really helpful and stands by his work 110%) used my old lower unit and just put the 88' powerhead on that. So since the serial number is located on the part that wasn't replaced, how can I find out the serial number of the new (rebuilt) powerhead.

However, the mechanic (and yes he could have made a mistake) ordered me the CDI stator and charged me what he paid (naturally because he felt bad the other one died, like I said he is stand up) and said that this is the stator for that engine. So I would like to think he is right, but maybe I need a regulator. First lets start with the serial number though.

-thanks
andy

You are absolutely right. I need a voltage regulator for 15 or 16 amp stator. I must of previously had a 9 amp stator. It is too bad the product I bought was avertised as a "rect/reg". How much does a regulator cost and were should I get one? This site I bought the rectifier from does not carry regulators.

-andy

Nope wrong again.
I thought I had a 16 amp stator. Just found this website
http://www.jerrysmarine.com/cgi-local/show_page.cgi?page=925&reset=3972

I matched the "This stator replaces the following P/N's: 398-5454A2,A6,A7,......" With the printout that came in the CDI/Rapair stator box. And it turns out, I do have a 9amp stator. And the fact that the rectifier test bad, was probably the reason everything went haywire.

Sorry for the wild goose chase-
andy
