So, I just got a new cellular service and phone, and my old but still functional cell phone is just sitting. On a whim, I googled cell phone donations and found this:

http://www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com/

Let me stress that I know nothing of them aside from what I've read, but a google of the organization makes it seem legit. I'll be dropping mine off today at one of their local drop-off points (American Legion Hall). If you check out their FAQ section, you can have instructions e-mailed to you for 'wiping' your current phone. I had a brand-new unused SIM card to put in mine, so I'm not concerned about having any personal info left in it.

Seems like a worthwhile effort. Hopefully some soldier will get the opportunity to call home for holidays.

God bless our Service Men and Women...

Re: Cell Phones for Soldiers

Nice idea. My wife works at the Woman's Shelter and we donate our phones locally to the shelter. Even a phone w/o minutes will dial 911 for emergencies.

Being prior military I had never experienced a lack of phones however on a front line we have experienced lack of service.
